Writing Your Syllabus for the School of Business and Technology

The School of Business & Technology (SBT) has been focusing its attention on The Consistency Project since 2001. The Consistency project is multi-faceted, and its purpose is to ensure that our graduates receive the same education – no matter where in the world of Webster they attend classes.

This project has resulted in SBT's Faculty Course Information site on Webster University's Connections portal. This site is easily accessible and contains a database of 'Faculty Course Guides' and 'Sample Syllabi' for every course offered by the School of Business and Technology. You will also find a 'Syllabus Template' and an 'Approved Textbook List' on this site.

The purpose of these materials is to provide ideas and direction to faculty in order to ensure that one curriculum is delivered across the Webster system, both in St. Louis, and at international and U.S. extended campuses.

The 'Faculty Course Guides' and 'Sample Syllabi' are not only an important part of the Consistency Project, but also work hand-in-hand with Academic Assessment. To advance the work that the School of Business and Technology is doing on academic assessment, program level learning outcomes are reflected in the course level learning outcomes that are incorporated into the 'Faculty Course Guides' and 'Sample Syllabi.' Therefore it's very important for each instructor to be diligent in covering the course level learning outcomes in their course.

As you construct your course syllabus, please use the "Faculty Course Guide,' the 'Sample Syllabus,' and the 'Syllabus Template.' Reference the template to understand the parts of the syllabus that are standard and those that are left to the discretion of the instructor.
