The Faculty Development Center supports Webster University’s faculty in developing pedagogical approaches and models that achieve curricular objectives and meet diverse student learning styles. Services provided through consultation allow the FDC to offer assistance with specialized details of instructional revision projects or faculty development efforts. One-on-one Tutorials
When at all possible, we will gladly give you personal attention by working with you to understand questions about teaching technologies that you have chosen to use with your course. It is a good idea to write down the questions, concerns, and ideas to bring with you when we meet when we meet.

Learning Object Design
Sometimes knowing how to use a tool isn’t enough – what good is a DVD player with no DVD to put in it? The FDC can work with you figure out what content you need to create so that your expertise as a scholar can be captured for delivery via media rich experiences. The FDC will create a project plan that will draw upon experience from other departments, including the library, in the process of turning faculty ideas into usable objects for teaching concepts. Some examples would include creating a web page with a variety of video clips to watch before class, making an interactive tutorial, creating web-based study guides or annotated bibliographies, or building a media-rich presentation for your class.

Classroom Activity Design
Making the most of class time can be a challenge to many instructors. Evening classes can often grow monotonous after several hours, and even with vast array of learning technologies available, an instructor must still find ways to link them with their classroom practices. The FDC can assist faculty in choosing and designing activities that promote active learning. Strategies for active learning are available in our Active Learning Handbook, which is the best place to start. If you need assistance tailoring these activities for your course, or with exploring other options, please contact us.

Grant and Fellowship Support
The FDC can help faculty meet the requirements of grant and fellowship opportunities both internal and external (in collaboration with the Office of Development) that relate to teaching and learning. In the writing process, we can assist with defining and documenting needed components of a successful project, and can assist with planning for methods of evaluating and documenting project success. Also, faculty who have been awarded grants or fellowships can seek our support with the implementation of teaching and learning components.
